Righteous Rodents
The Declaration of Independence of the United
States of America states that we are all created equally.
However, society does not live up to this idea, nor does
the church as a whole. If you do not live in the “right”
neighborhood, wear the “right” clothes, have the “right”
body type, or speak a certain lingo then you might be
looked at differently. Yet we have not even mentioned
the people that Christ spoke of in Matthew 25:31-46:
homeless, naked, hungry, a stranger, or a prisoner.
Society has an extremely negative view and attitude
toward this group of individuals. Many today have no
hope and no zeal for life because they have been told
repeatedly that they are useless, a plague on society, or
just scum of the earth. They feel their worth is no more
than that of a mouse, a rodent!
Thank God, you and I do not have to feel this
way. II Corinthians 5:11-21 tells us that because of
Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection we can become a
new creation that has been made in the righteousness of
God. Yes, without Christ, our righteousness is as filthy
rags, but in Christ, we are reborn anew. Praise be to
God our heavenly Father for his gift of Christ to all
mankind!
Second Heart Ministries is dedicated to serving
the “least of these among us” (Matthew 25:31-46).
When we as a ministry began to question how we may
serve the incarcerated masses and teach them about the
true love and grace of Jesus Christ, it became apparent
that one of the greatest lessons needing to be taught is
one of the same in the free world. First, love the Lord
your God with all your heart, mind, and soul. Secondly,
love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus taught in John
13:35, “by this all people will know that you are my
disciples, if you have love for one another.” Where is
the love that we have for one another? Where is the
love that we have for the “least of these among us?”
Thus, the Righteous Rodents Society was born.
Our creed/motto for this society is:
“When others say or I fear that my self worth is nothing
more than a rodent’s, I must remind them and myself
that I am more than a conqueror, an heir to the kingdom
of the lion of the tribe of Judah and He has made me the
righteousness of God."
How will I accomplish this?...
through my love, deeds, and ministry of reconciliation
for the Gospel of Christ to the least of these among us.
When most of the world, and yes even the
majority of the Church, see the incarcerated believers,
they view them as mere rodents. Christ, and we as a
ministry, see them as mighty, bold lions. Hence, we
have created this Society to bring together free and
incarcerated believers to love, serve, and teach each
other. The free-world can become members of this
Society as well as inmates through our auxiliary
membership. This program allows free world and
inmates alike to support and show love to each other,
just as Christ taught us to do.
